These are the shortcuts editors use all day — enough to review a cut without touching the mouse. On Windows and Linux, use Ctrl wherever this page says ⌘.

Use ← and → for the frame-by-frame stepping a technical review needs. J and L work like an editing suite: press again for 2x, again for 4x.

Note: Shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a field, and while a dialog or menu is open — so C in the middle of a sentence types a letter, not a comment.
