Supported formats and limits

A quick reference for what RecReview accepts and where the ceilings are.

Video formats

Uploads are accepted as MP4, MOV (QuickTime), M4V, MPEG, AVI, WMV, WebM, FLV and 3GP.

MP4 with H.264 is the safest choice: it plays everywhere, uploads fastest and gives the reviewer the smoothest scrubbing.

Maximum size per file

Plan Single file up to
Creator 2 GB
Pro 5 GB
Studio 10 GB

The 15-day trial runs on Studio limits. This is the ceiling for one file — total storage is a separate limit, covered in Storage limits.

  • Up to 5,000 characters of text per comment.
  • Up to 3 attachments per comment, 50 MB each.
  • Attachment types: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, PDF, plain text, .doc, .docx, ZIP.

Transcript exports

Transcripts export as SRT, VTT, TXT or JSON. Marker exports come out as XML for Premiere Pro and FCPXML for DaVinci Resolve.

Tip: If an upload is refused, check how the file was exported. A .mov written in a format browsers cannot play will upload and then refuse to play.

What’s next

Upload your first video walks through the upload itself.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload ProRes or an .mxf file?
MXF isn't accepted. A ProRes file saved as .mov uploads, but browsers can't play ProRes, so export an H.264 MP4 for the review and keep your mastering file in your own storage.
